The McKinstry Family
JEM Farms was founded in 1994, by John E. "Buddy" McKinstry. Buddy has been involved with farming for 39 years. He began working with his father Sam Jr. McKinstry at Pahokee Produce in 1978 then went to work for Hundley Farms that next year. When Buddy ventured his own way in 1994, he started growing beans, corn and leafy vegetables at his new formed company JEM Farms Inc. His son, Shaun McKinstry, began working with him at the age of 15. Shaun has been involved with his father's farm for 18 years and is currently Vice President and farm manager of JEM Farms.
Aside farming, Buddy is the Vice President on Western Palm Beach County Farm Bureau and has been an active member on the board for 16 years. He was on the board at Glades Day School for 10 years and currently is a member of the Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative. Buddy and his family received the Pioneer Family of The Year in 2011 and also Farm Bureau Farm Family of The Year in 2009.
JEM Farms has joint partnerships with Roth Farms, STAR Farms and other local farmers. They follow all of the best management practices to provide clean water and keep their produce sanitary.
